This Weeks Random Pieces of Flare: Totally Random Acts of Design

These logos are pretty weird. I wonder how they would be graded in this, or any design class. Even after a few design classes, i still can't figure the grading system, is it objective, or subjective. Either way, i hope the designers of these logos were paid well...i doubt it.

I just like the whole arrow going down the barrel of the gun, it goes well with the title "Weird War"

Killer Moles...AWWWWWWWW.

Anime Pick: Naruto The Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow

My biggest complaint about anime is that most of it is extremely derivative as if it's all drawn from the same general template then modified slightly. The charcters have a cookie-cutter feel to them. Naruto lacks any originality at all. The look of the snow ninja's was pretty cool, but their boss was totally unoriginal. Overall the animation is fairly good but it's not going to win any awards.

"Show and Tell" An Unecessary Process

I have always thought that those "How to Draw" books were pointless. How many times can you draw a dog in this one pose. All you are really doing is memorizing someone's design. The process starts off good, with how the dog's head is broken down into basic shapes, but then the use of shapes is abandoned. Besides, the look on the dog's face is pretty lame.

More, and More Random Pieces of Flare

It's ggggrrreeeaaattt!!!!!
So, if a tree grows out of the side of a bench in a room, does anyone hear it?

Looks surprisingly comfortable....well, sort of.

Anime Pick, Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture

Based on the video game, Fatal Fury is widely regarded as one of the best kung fu anime features. The good guys are Terry "Hungry Wolf" Bogard and his brother, Andy; Thai kickboxer Joe Higashi; and the female ninja Mai. The heroes are pitted against Laocorn, a descendant of the ancient clan of Gaudeamus, who is seeking to obtain "the armor of Vulcan."

"Show and Tell" An Example of Process

Here is a very clear, and beautifully illustrated process of how to change a car's tire. Click on it, you may learn something......And it's pink!!!!!

More Random Pieces of Flare

Now, what's the point of a bookshelf, when you can't fit any books on it? Too, throw away your money.
Very interesting design from the Spanish studio enPieza, it is called Colgao. enPieza is a team of different disciplined professionals inside the design field who produce product, industrial, graphic, web or exhibitions work.

Hope it's not a dung beetle, eeeewwww!!!!!

Amine Pick: Karas

Karas tells the story of Otoha, a former yakuza, living in a fictional version of Shinjuku, Tokyo populated by humans and yōkai (Japanese spirits). He is one of the titular karas, humans appointed as superpowered agents of the land. Able to transform into a car, an aircraft, and an armored crusader; the skilled swordsman is to stop his corrupt predecessor, Eko, from taking over Tokyo. Supporting characters such as Eko's former henchman, Nue; the yōkai; and Homura, the karas of another city, help Otoha in his quest. A concurrent side story focuses on humans affected by Eko's scheme.

Karas won the Best Original Video at the 2006 Tokyo Anime Award competition, and most reviewers were impressed with the images produced by fusing 2D and 3D art techniques. The story presents themes on the conflicts between cultural traditions and modern society, and the relationship between people. Reviewers, however, found its presentation was too confusing to follow; several of them felt it worsened the show by detracting from the strength of its art.

Possible Apple Graphic Tablet

Check this out, someone sent me this concept art for a possible Apple graphic tablet. Would be nice, but knowing Apple, you'll probably have to take out a second mortgage to pay for it.

"Show and Tell, " Something Related to a Narrative

These are a few pages from issues 533 and 534 of one of the longest running manga, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. I selected this for my example because of the interesting use of panels to progress the story. Japanese reads right to left so manga reads right to left, unlike English comics that read left to right.

....Also, the character's super powers in this manga are all named after famous musicians or songs. Peep how the guy with the revolver is fighting a guy named Sex Pistol, and another character is named Notorious B.I.G., kinda cool, right?

This Weeks Anime Pick, Gungrave

Gungrave opens thirteen years after Brandon Heat is betrayed by his best friend Harry MacDowell. He is reborn as Beyond The Grave, and begins a quest of revenge against the crime syndicate. The series then backtracks to Brandon's youth, and follows him and Harry as they rise through the criminal underworld, detailing the circumstances that led to their eventual falling-out.

"Unplugged"

This has absolutely nothing to do with anything, but i thought it looked pretty cool. What do you think?

Anime Pick, Samurai Champloo

The series is a cross-genre work of media, blending the action and samurai genres with elements of slapstick comedy. It is also a period piece, taking place during Japan's Edo period. The series is interwoven with revisionist historical facts and anachronistic elements of mise-en-scene, dialogue and soundtrack. The series' most frequent anachronism is its use of elements of hip hop culture, particularly rap and the music it has influenced, break dancing, turntablism, hip hop slang, and graffiti.

"Show and Tell," Interesting Typography

Of course i had to go with something a little savage.

This weeks anime, Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade

A retelling of the fairytale, Little Red Riding Hood, Hiroyuki Okiura's debut feature, the Animé film JIN-ROH, is a tale of personal crisis amid intra-bureaucratic trickery. The film is set in an alternate reality in which Japan has emerged from World War II as a totalitarian society. The population riots, a group called the Sect creates havoc, and the armored Special Unit of the Capitol Police Organization (CAPO) plots to acquire more power. A soldier named Fuse, who was once one of the most formidable men in the Special Unit, agonizes over the death of a young girl who worked for the Sect and in doing so he becomes a neurotic mess intent on befriending the dead girl's sister.

Legend of Crystania

Legend of Crystania tells the story of the land which Ashram. Ashram is inhabited by many animal gods, and their followers. The followers have the ability to transform into half-human/half-animal creatures. The particular animal depends on the animal god. (ie. followers of the wolf-god turn into werewolf-like creature) The followers of the gods continually wage war on each other.

8-Man After

I first watched 8 Man as a child on the SCI-FI channel, when they played anime on Saturday mornings. That's where i really fell in love with anime, they were so much edgier than U.S. animations. I was hooked.

Based on the 1960s manga, 8-Man After documents the crime fighting of a resurrected cop, murdered by criminal, transformed into a cyborg powerhouse-house by scientists.

Things I Collect "Show and Tell"

I collect anime (Japanese animation).
The first on my list is Devilman. Based off of a 1970's manga (Japanese graphic novel), the story revolves around a teenage boy named Akira, in a world plagued with demon possession. Akira is possessed by Amon the Lord of War, one of the strongest demons. This possession causes Akira to transform into Devilman. Devilman contains the strength and power of the demon and fights to save his friends and family. Very Bloody with Nudity and Adult Language.

How to draw Manga/Anime Girl

A tutorial that i had a lil, fun with. Scratch that, a lot of aggravation with.

Hey, what's up?

I finally decided on netbooks for my "hey, what's up" piece. I've been thinking of buying one from dell because they are on sale, but by the time you finish adding all the recommended upgrades, it costs like 1,200 dollars. For all that i might as well just get a regular lap top, right?

My "Show and Tell" of a piece of bad food photography

A real throwback from back in the day. Bon appetit, nah, not really.

This is my Example of good food writting, an article on Curtis Aiken's vegetarian menu from Culinary.net

(Family Features) - There's nothing quite like the delicious flavor of food cooked on a grill and enjoyed with family and friends to make a meal feel like a celebration. The same old burgers and dogs may get tiring after a while, though. If your barbecue fare needs a little flair, try adding in veggies. Now more than ever, a variety of foods are being enjoyed on the grill. It's never been easier to serve up healthful and delicious dishes for a backyard barbecue.

Whether you're entertaining friends or preparing a pleasing family dinner, there are plenty of vegetarian grilled recipe options to tempt your taste buds. Sensational veggie side dishes, zesty burgers and veggie skewers add a twist to the traditional barbeque.

Celebrity chef and cookbook author Curtis Aikens uses seasonal vegetables like peas, peppers, potatoes, corn and beans in summer, and squash, broccoli, carrots and onions in autumn to liven up his menu.

"It's so easy to make great veggie foods all year-round," Aikens said. "I want people to see veggies differently because there are so many delicious recipes and flavors available, your taste buds will never get bored!"

Chef Aikens suggests a tangy combination of fresh baby spinach, tomatoes, cheeses, garlic, basil and olive oil to dress up grilled vegetarian Chik'n Parmesan sandwiches. Bring some paella to the party with his colorful vegetarian dish that uses vegetable stock as a flavorful base. Looking for a refreshing twist on a traditional wrap? Chef Aikens recommends creating a zesty mixture of marinated vegetables with either strips of Morningstar Farms Spicy Black Bean Veggie Burgers or Garden Veggie Patties and wrapping them in a flour tortilla.
